Mountain Homes, Designed for the Way You Live

Every home begins with a place, a view, and a story.

OUR WORK

Custom Mountain Homes, Designed for Their Place.

Custom Mountain Homes are what we design. At Spellbound Architects, our work is shaped by the people who live in these homes and the landscapes that surround them, rooted in the Colorado mountains where architecture has to do more than look beautiful. It has to respond to climate, terrain, snow, sun, views, and the realities of everyday mountain life.

No two sites or clients are the same. Rather than beginning with a predetermined style, we look closely at what makes each project unique: the land, the way light moves across the site, the views worth framing, and how our clients want to live from day to day. The result is architecture that feels intentional and deeply connected to its setting.

Whetstone House

Crested Butte South, Colorado  ·  Mountain Modern  ·  3,100 sq ft

Originally designed as our own family home, Whetstone House helped shape the design philosophy behind Spellbound Architects. Set on a gently sloping corner lot overlooking Whetstone Mountain, the home is oriented around natural light, framed mountain views, and a strong connection to the outdoors.

Clean forms, expansive glazing, clerestory windows, and a sculptural floating staircase bring a modern sensibility to a home designed first and foremost for family life. Though construction is planned for the future, the ideas explored here continue to influence the way we approach mountain architecture today.

Buckhorn Ranch

Crested Butte, Colorado  ·  Mountain Modern  ·  4,598 sq ft

Designed as a forever home for a local family, Buckhorn Ranch takes advantage of an unusually flat site and panoramic views across the Gunnison Valley. Carefully framed sightlines capture Whetstone Mountain, Mt. Crested Butte, Gothic, Cement Mountain, and the surrounding landscape from throughout the home.

A central glass enclosed circulation space separates the primary residence from an attached ADU while maintaining uninterrupted views through the house. A continuous natural wood ceiling extends from the exterior entry through the interior and out toward the landscape, intentionally blurring the boundary between inside and out.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.
